Help us mark the centre spot of Roker Park, with a plaque it deserves.
For 99 years, Sunderland AFC called Roker Park home. Generations walked through those turnstiles. Three league titles were celebrated there. World Cup matches were played there. Legends were made there.
And right at the heart of it all was the centre spot. Every match started there. Every dream began there. Every roar built from that one point on the pitch.
Today, that ground is gone. The club moved to the Stadium of Light in 1997, and Roker Park became a housing estate. Life moved on, as it should. Families live there now. It's quiet. It's home.
But here's the thing. That exact spot, the centre circle of Roker Park, still exists. Opposite a small green at Promotion Close Park used as a mini roundabout. You can stand on it. You can look out across it. And unless you already know, you would never realise you are looking at one of the most important pieces of Sunderland's history.
The timing has never been better. Look at what the club has done these past few years. The throwback strips. The Roker Park inspired kit designs. The new Welcome to Sunderland sign being placed on the Stadium of Light, a direct homage to the old Roker Park. There's a real, considered effort to honour the past in a way that feels proud, not nostalgic for the sake of it.
So if the club is celebrating Roker Park in every other way, why is the most important part of all, the centre spot itself, the place where every game began, still completely unmarked?
Other clubs have done it. Manchester City marked the centre spot of Maine Road. Highbury preserved its pitch within the development. Roker Park deserves the same.
The estate is fine. Families live there. That isn't going anywhere. But the centre spot should be marked. Honoured. Not just sitting under some bricks.
The Centre Spot at Manchester City's Maine Road. Inspiring.

The exact centre spot of Roker Park still exists. It sits quietly in a small green at Promotion Close Park, surrounded by the housing estate that took the stadium's place.
A centre spot plaque. Subtle. Considered. Permanent. Something a granddad can take his grandkids to. Something that says, this is where it all began.
